News Task - ITV

Analyse the connotations of the title sequence

Title sequence iconography:

  • Music is beat-driven and fast, and uses brass instruments...
  • Rushing graphics and or rushing camera movements
  • Landmarks from centres of power around the world
  • Big, bold founts often in block caps with straight lines
  • Clocks
  • Eyes and or transparent objects
  • The world from space
  • Satellites and technology
  • Blues, chromes, red
  • Male voice-overs
All reinforce the key connotations of neutrality, importance and urgency.

My chosen title sequence

  • Landmarks - places of interest

  • Rushing graphics
  • Bold font
  • 'NEWS' in block caps with straight lines
  • A lot of the colour blue used
Other elements of the title sequence iconography include a male voice-over and fast, pacey music using brass instruments.

Elements of the title sequence iconography include clocks, chromes and red, eyes and transparent objects, satellites and technology and the world from space. This could possibly be due to times changing and new iconography being commonly used.

Analyse the connotations of the newsreaders

Male news reader - around 38 years of age
Female news reader - around 28 years of age

It is commonly known that male newsreaders hold a longer career in the industry that females. Men commonly going on to present the news until they around 60/70 whereas women normally last until around 40 years old. This is mainly due to males playing dominant roles within the news industry.

Analyse mise-en-scene of the studio

  • Sofa/seat
  • Desk
  • Notes
  • Laptops
  • Large Television
  • Blue colours in background
  • Picture of London in background
  • No shots of lighting or cameras to show the organisations authenticity
The mise-en-scene is kept basic including minimal items perhaps symbolising the news teams blank canvas style not needing much to provide their audiences with important information.

  1. A good schematic analysis. Could use a little more explanation.
